SÃO PAULO, Brazil — June 26, 2012 — Major healthcare industry trends, such as improving patient safety and creating smaller, more accessible devices, are receiving strong support from SABIC’s Innovative Plastics business, which is spotlighting an array of advanced thermoplastic resins from its broad product portfolio here at the debut of MD&M Brazil 2012 (booth #709). Among the featured applications promoting patient safety is GE Healthcare’s X-ray collimator, which uses SABIC’s LNP* Thermocomp* HSG compound for shielding instead of lead, a heavy metal that continues to present health and disposal challenges to manufacturers of radiation-shielding products. The Breastlight examination device from PWB Health Ltd., also on display, uses SABIC’s Cycoloy* polycarbonate/acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (PC/ABS) HC resin to enhance usability in the home, enabling the healthcare industry’s move toward device portability. SABIC’s ongoing drive to improve its materials technologies and application development support – combined with local supply – is helping South American customers differentiate their products and meet the fast-changing requirements of the region’s healthcare sector.
